Zagreb funicular

Zagreb funicular

The Zagreb funicular connects the Upper Town of Zagreb with the Lower Town of Zagreb. The station at the bottom is in Tomićeva street (which runs onto Ilica street), whereas the station at the top is on Strossmayerovo Boulevard, under the Lotrščak tower. The track is 66 metres long and it's therefore the world's shortest cable car track intended for public transport. It was officially opened on the 8th October  1890 and it began operating on the 23th April 1893. At first it ran on steam and in 1934 it operated electrically. As it preserved its initial outlook until today as well as its construction scheme together with major technical specifications in line with the designs of its constructors, the Zagreb funicular is protected by law as a cultural monument. The Zagreb funicular is one of the tourist attractions in Zagreb. The Zagreb Electric Tram (ZET) is now operating the Zagreb funicular.
