The vibrant street in the centre of the city evolved from a stream valley in the Middle Ages between the oldest fortfied residential areas of Zagreb- Gradec and Kaptol. Long before the street was laid out here flowed a stream and that's why the street was initially named Stream („Potok“) in the beginning of the 20th century. In today's Tkalčićeva street you can see a sun watch which shows the exact time, the statue of Marije Jurić Zagorka, a great journalist and writer from Zagreb, or you can enjoy the manifold cafes, galleries and restaurants.
