The Botanical garden

The Botanical garden

The Botanical garden is a place where plants from different parts of the world are grown. The most modern botanical gardens have been joined with the zoo, so it's much more nicer to observe plants. Croatia has no societies of botanical gardens nor zoos. The botanical gardens are extremely vital for the preservation of biological diversity.

The Botanical garden of the Faculty of Mathematics and Biology, colloquially known as the Botanical garden, is the Botanical garden of Zagreb. It was founded in 1889 by the Institute of  Botany and Physiology, which at that time belonged to the Department of the Mathematics and Natural Science of the Faculty of Philosophy. It got its today's name in 1946 when the Botanical Institute of the Department of Biology became part of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science, founded that same year. In 1971 the Botanical garden came under legal protection and it's a monument of garden landscape.
