The St Mark's Church in Zagreb is one of the oldest buildings in the city. This fact is underpinned by Romanic elements found on the church facade. When we look at its ground-plan, we may observe that the Church has three naves with a threepartite ending to the east (apse). The interior is divided by four massive round pillars into naves. One enters the Church through the portal on the western and eastern side. On the northeastern side of the church there's a bell tower with a square foundation. To the west of the bell tower lies the sanctuary and beside it the chapel of St. Fabian and Sebastian which can also be entered from without. It was built as a hall building with three naves in the 14th century for the purposes of a parish church of Gradec. The parish is mentioned in 1261. It has a beautiful portal. At one time, in front of it stood a pillar of shame to which people were tied and punishments were administered which the city court had proclaimed. It is memorisable by its colourful bell tower and roof (A. Macetti and Machiedo) which houses the coat of arms of the city of Zagreb and the coat of arms of the Triune Kingdom of Croatia, Slavonia and Dalmatia, by its baroque arches and a balanced southern facade which shows the richest portal in the whole of Croatia in respect of figures inserted on it.
