
Jarun is a residential area with the lake by the same name, on the southwestern part of the Trešnjevka – South district.
It's located between Horvaćanska street and the banks of the River Sava and residential areas Horvati, Srednjaci, Gajevo and Gredice to the east, Staglišće to the north and Vrbani and Prečko to the west. The residential area Jarun belongs to the local council by the same name and part of Roman-Catholic parish of the Holy Ghost. It's centre is located beside the church of „St Mother of Freedom“ („Sveta Mati od Slobode").
Sunset at the lake. The residential area has a lake by the same name which forms part of the 2km long rowing track. Apart from a rowing track the Lake Jarun has also two conjoined lakes for bathing and recreation, the Big Lake and the Small Lake as well as six islands (the University Island, Trešnjevka Island, Island oft he Croatian Youth, Island of Wildnerness, Island of Rowers and the Island of Love) (Otok Univerzijade, OtokaTrešnjevka, Otok Hrvatske mladeži, Otok divljine, Otok veslača i Otok ljubavi). A concrete path runs around the lake (6km long), which makes it a popular venue for the people of Zagreb not only in the summer days but also during winter to engage in sporting activities like swimming, running, skating, byclicling and so on. Apart from recreation, the Lake Jarun is also a sports venue with rowing and sailing competitions regularly taking place as well as kayak and canoe championships on still waters, swim marathons, athletic tournaments and bycycle races and other activities.
